City of Bellinzona

The City of Bellinzona will provide the setting for the Bellinzona Living Lab experiment.
Bellinzona is located in Southern Switzerland, in a mostly plain area surrounded by hills, not far from Lago Maggiore. It is the capital of the Italian-speaking Canton in Switzerland, Canton Ticino. The Canton has about 350,000 inhabitants; the area of Bellinzona, including the smaller municipalities surrounding it, account for a total of around 50,000 inhabitants. The area is particularly favourable to pedestrian and cycling mobility. In the last years, the City made many investments to support alternatives to car use and develop an effective and functional network of public transportation, pedestrian and cycle paths inside the city, also linked to regional and national routes.
